Getting Started in Hockey at Sno-King Ice Arenas
Learning ice skating fundamentals before starting hockey is key. Children and Adults progress at their own time through the levels of Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs. Skaters will advance through the various levels at their own pace. We highly recommend children and adults participate in a Tot/Basic 1/Basic 1 Adult Learn to Skate Series before they are introduced to hockey.
We offer Try Hockey Free days at all locations. New Skaters ages 4 to 16 are welcome to attend these events to give it a try!
Children ages 4 to 16 progress through the steps below to become hockey players
The focus and goal of Learn To Play-Hockey 1 and Hockey 1 Late Start is to teach beginner ice skaters the fundamentals of ice skating. It’s important for these players to become comfortable on the ice, learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and how to hold a stick before moving on to Learn To Play-Hockey 2 (LTP-H2).
Learn To Play-Hockey 2 is designed for players ages 5 to 9 who have basic skating skills and are ready for more hockey. This program consists of small groups of players on the ice with similar skill levelsskating in full hockey gear.
