Sno-King stands committed in supporting and growing girls participation in hockey and offering a variety of competitive development programs for all skills and ages. We are excited to continue to build on this year’s momentum in our planning for the 2021-2022 season.
Highlights from last season’s Girls Program include participation in the MHL 8U & 10U Girls Jamboree, 8U Girls team in the Dru Hammond Hockey Hero Memorial Cup, 12U Girls in the SKAHA Cup, 14U Girls Development Team advancing to USA Hockey Nationals AND five select players advancing to the Girls Pacific District Development Camp.
The desire to play all-girls is personal and our goal is to provide the best hockey experience no matter the choice. Next season we intend to further enhance our girls program focusing on:
Girls hockey participation at Sno-King has increased by 42% in the last 5 years with over 75 players allowing us to deliver a full service development program for all girls. This season included five all-girls teams ages 8U-14U helping to build the pipeline for future growth. In addition, girls may also choose to play rec/select or both.
Given the tremendous growth in addition to the success of our 14U Girls Development Program this past season, we added new resources as our Girls Ambassadors and Coaching support. This season, the 14U & 16U girls program will be led by Hockey Director, Doug Kirton in partnership with former Yale Division 1 and Professional Hockey Player Spencer Rodgers leading 8U-12U. We are also actively searching for a Female Skills Coach and/or Director to lead our overall program next season.
We also intend to focus on more integration between teams to help further enhance development for all girls at all ages levels. This includes more intentional scheduling around practices, games and tournaments for increased exposure, connection and development. New this season is an all girls skills night!
We recognize the opportunity that girls hockey brings to future generations. We continue to see increased female registrations in our beginner programs and want to further nurture those new players to have a positive experience to the sport we all love. We plan to provide all players with increased opportunities to introduce, assist and mentor new players to the sport of hockey.
We are pleased to offer a variety of girls camps and clinics throughout the year including holiday and spring/summer.
