2022-23 Girls Hockey Program
Sno-King stands committed to supporting and growing female participation in hockey and offering a variety of competitive development programs for all skills and ages. We are excited to continue to build on this year’s momentum in our planning for the 2022-2023 season. Highlights from last season are posted here.
Growing & Supporting Girls Participation
Girls hockey participation at Sno-King has increased by 150% in the last 5 years with over 135 players allowing us to deliver a full-service development program for all female players. This season included six all-girls teams ages 8U-16U helping to build the pipeline for future growth. We are also fortunate to have local competitive all-girls teams along with strong female leagues in the West in addition to a variety of competitive Canadian teams and tournaments within driving distance. Next season we plan to offer additional all-girl options by facility for our beginner 8U players. In addition, girls may also choose to play rec/select or both.
Sno-King supported many initiatives this season that encouraged connection and community. These included celebrating USA Hockey’s National Girls Hockey Weekend at a Seattle Thunderbirds Game @ ShoWare and National Girls Try Hockey Free Day. They also included weekly Friday night skills along with a Holiday Skate Party and End of Season Celebration. Sno-King plans to continue these important events.
Expanding our Resources
Given the tremendous growth in addition to the success of our Tier II teams this season, we continue to work to expand our resources both with staff and coach support. Next season, the 14U & 16U girls program will again be supported by Hockey Director, Doug Kirton with former Yale Division 1 player Spencer Rodgers leading our 12U AA team. We are also actively searching for a Female Skills Coach and/or Director to lead one or more teams next season and have been fortunate to have several candidates being considered at this time. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks. Thank you to ALL coaches and volunteers who have championed this program and helped provide so many wonderful opportunities for our players.
Scheduling & Integration across Girls teams
We will focus on continued integration between teams to help further enhance development for all girls at all ages levels. We plan to continue to offer optional weekly 8U-12U girls skills sessions and goalie clinics for all ages. We also plan on more intentional scheduling for practices, games, and tournaments for increased exposure, connection, and development.
Developing Mentorship & Volunteer Opportunities
We recognize the opportunity that girls hockey brings to future generations. We continue to see increased female registrations in our beginner programs and want to further nurture those new players to have positive experiences. Sno-King will continue to provide players with increased opportunities to introduce, assist and mentor new players to the sport of hockey and are so thankful for all the volunteers who continue to support these important programs.
